New-Model-Cars-Latest

The first official photographs have been published of the Ferrari California, the latest addition to the new generation of Ferraris launched in 2004 with the 612 Scaglietti and added to more recently with the 430 Scuderia.

The Ferrari California joins the Prancing Horse's 8-cylinder family which has always been defined by power and performance. It also flanks the flagship 612 Scaglietti in the prestige sporty Grand Tourer segment.

The new Ferrari California will satisfy even the most demanding of owners in term of its superb vehicle dynamics and driving pleasure. The new model will be available exclusively as a convertible with a folding hard top. Both chassis and bodywork are aluminium, in line with the rest of the current range. The California will be powered by a new V8 engine mounted for the first time in the marque's history in the mid-front position.

In line with Ferrari tradition, the new model also features several innovations. Apart from its folding hard top, these include the original 2+ concept which guarantees exceptional versatility of use in the rear of the car. The California's 4,300 cc V8 engine features direct fuel injection and a "flat" crankshaft. It generates 460 CV at 7,500 rpm with a torque curve that enhances vehicle dynamics and provides maximum driving pleasure which is typical for Ferrari.

As per the traditional Ferrari transaxle layout, the engine, which allows the Ferrari California to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4.0 seconds, will be coupled to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission that boosts the car's performance while enhancing the driving pleasure, improves ride comfort and reduces fuel consumption and emissions (c.310 g/km CO2). The comfort is further enhanced by a new multilink rear suspension system. The Ferrari California is also equipped with the exclusive F1-Trac traction control system which made its debut on the 599 GTB Fiorano and has been further honed to suit the typical driving conditions expected for this new GT. Brembo brakes featuring carbon-ceramic material disks as standard guarantee superbly efficient braking.

Mercedes-Benz-Clk-Sport-Edition

With its sporty appearance and sumptuous level of appointments, the immediately available Sport Edition is a new highlight among the Coupés and Cabriolets of the Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class. 18-inch light-alloy wheels in an exclusive design, AMG styling features in the exterior and bi-xenon headlamps as standard give this special model a particularly distinctive appearance. The sporty, exclusive atmosphere of the interior is especially characterised by the grippy AMG ergonomic sports steering wheel, aluminium-look sports pedals and special velour floor mats.

The letter combination CLK has denoted excitement and driving pleasure for many years. The new “Sport Edition” special model now makes the Coupés and Cabriolets of the Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class even more desirable. Both externally and in the interior, the Sport Edition further upgrades the CLK models and makes them even more attractive and dynamic.
he exciting design of the CLK-Class is accentuated by muscular AMG styling features for an even more dynamic appearance. These include a front apron with more pronounced contours, as well as the rear apron and side skirts which typify AMG models. Large, 18-inch light-alloy wheels in a new, six twin-spoke design (front 225/40 R 18, rear 255/35 R18) further enhance the sporty appearance and contribute to driving pleasure. The same applies to the perforated front brake discs. The brake callipers of Sport Edition models bear the lettering “Mercedes-Benz”.

Alfa-8c-Competizione

The '8c Competizione' concept car, designed and produced by the Alfa Romeo Style Centre, stands as an icon of the brand, its very name evocative of Alfa's great motorsports tradition. This is borne out by the code '8c' used to identify cars (racing and on-road) of the Thirties and Forties equipped with the revolutionary eight-cylinder engine produced by the famous designer Vittorio Jano. The second term 'Competizione' is intended as a homage to the 6C 2500 Competizione, a sports coupé driven in 1950 by the team of Fangio - Zanardi in the famous Mille Miglia race.

The second term 'Competizione' is intended as a homage to the 6C 2500 Competizione, a sports coupé driven in 1950 by the team of Fangio - Zanardi in the famous Mille Miglia race.
So '8c Competizione' is not an invented name, but a clear reference to Alfa's racing history. The Alfa Romeo legend was in any case born out of victories won on circuits throughout the world.

Alfa's many successes make a long and fascinating story on their own, a story of men and their competitive passion, engines and cutting-edge engineering.

The protagonists of the inestimable human and technological heritage that is responsible for today's beautiful cars, full of character and, above all, capable of combining the beauty of the styling with the pleasure of driving them.

Let us admire then the captivating, original lines of this prevalently carbon fibre 2-seater, with its aggressive proportions: 1900 mm wide, 4278 mm long and 1250 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2595 mm.

The body is given extra dynamism by the horizontal furrow cut into the side above the front wheelarch.

In addition to this, the large tyres (245/40 - R20 at the front and 275/35 - R20 at the rear) and the powerful, muscular rear wings accentuate the impression the model gives of a strong, forceful personality. This does not detract in any way from the elegance of the lines that run smoothly from front to back, to the light clusters set into the front bumper. A stylistic balance that has its maximum expression in the daring design of the rear window and the whole rear mudguard.

The front elements have been repositioned as they were on the most important Alfa racing cars of the past: the 'whiskers' and shield are aligned at the same height - a decision of historical and evolutionary significance. But a rapid glance will reveal that the styling of the whole exterior is full of classical references, an ideal opportunity for a modern interpretation of traditional Alfa styling cues. A quick glance tells you everything. For example, the front end recalls the former 33 Coupé Stradale. While the rear sports the characteristic round light clusters of the Giulia TZ.

Laugh-At-High-Gas-Prices-With-235-MPG

With gas prices going through the roof and regulators requiring cars to be ever more miserly, Volkswagen is bringing new meaning to the term “fuel efficiency” with a bullet-shaped microcar that gets a stunning 282 235 mpg.

Volkswagen’s had its super-thrifty One-Liter Car concept vehicle — so named because that’s how much fuel it needs to go 100 kilometers — stashed away for six years. The body’s made of carbon fiber to minimize weight (the entire car weighs just 660 pounds) and company execs didn’t expect the material to become cheap enough to produce the car until 2012.

But VW’s decided to build the car two years ahead of schedule.

According to Britain’s Car magazine, VW has approved a plan to build a limited number of One-Liters in 2010. They’ll probably be built in the company’s prototype shop, which has the capacity to build as many as 1,000 per year. That’s not a lot, but it’s enough to help VW get a lot of attention while showing how much light weight and an efficient engine can achieve.

VW unveiled the slick two-seater concept six years ago at a stockholder’s meeting in Hamburg. To prove it was a real car, Chairman Ferdinand Piech personally drove it from Wolfsburg to Hamburg. At the time, he said the car could see production when the cost of its carbon monocoque dropped from 35,000 Euros (about $55,000) to 5,000 Euros (about $8,000) — something he figured would happen in 2012. With carbon fiber being used in everything from airliners to laptops these days, VW’s apparently decided the cost is competitive enough to build at least a few hundred One-Liters.

VW’s engineers — who spent three years developing the car — made extensive use of magnesium, titanium and aluminum to bring it in at less than one-third the weight of a Toyota Echo. According to Canadian Driver, the front suspension assembly weighs just 18 pounds. The six-speed transmission features a magnesium case, titanium bolts and hollow gears; it weighs a tad more than 50 pounds. The 16-inch wheels are carbon fiber. The magnesium steering wheel weighs a little more than a pound. How much of the concept car’s exotic hardware makes it to the production model remains to be seen.

Low weight only gets you so far in the quest for ultimate fuel economy; aerodynamics plays a big role. The One-Liter is long and low, coming in at 11.4 feet long, 4.1 feet wide and 3.3 feet tall. It features an aircraft-like canopy, flat wheel covers and a belly pan to smooth the airflow under the car. The engine cooling vents open only when needed, and video cameras take the place of mirrors. The passenger sits behind the driver to keep the car narrow. The car has a coefficient of drag of 0.16; the average car comes in around 0.30 and the Honda Insight had a Cd of 0.25.

As for the engine, the concept had a one-cylinder diesel engine producing 8.5 horsepower and 13.5 foot-pounds of torque. Car says the production model will use a two-cylinder turbodiesel for a little more oomph. Doubling the number of cylinders is sure to cut fuel economy, so VW may install a diesel-hybrid drivetrain. The engine turns off at stop lights to save fuel, then automatically restarts when the driver depresses the accelerator pedal.

(Update: The car reportedly has anti-lock brakes, stability control and airbags. According to Canadian Driver, “Volkswagen says the One-Liter Car is as safe as a GT sports car registered for racing. With the aid of computer crash simulations, the car was designed with built-in crash tubes, pressure sensors for airbag control and front crumple zones.”)

Lexus-Is-F-Launches-In-Japan

Lexus has released six new images of the the IS-F luxury sedan, which was first shown in January at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The car is expected to arrive in showrooms in the coming months.

The all-new 2008 IS-F will target the BMW M3 and Audi RS4, delivering more than 400 horsepower and 350 ft.-lbs. of torque from a 5.0-liter V8 engine. It will eventually be offered as a two-door coupe, as well.

Much of the development of the new IS-F took place at Fuji Speedway and the Higashi-Fuji Technical Center in Japan. The IS-F is based on the rear-wheel-drive Lexus IS, which is equipped with a double-wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension. The IS-F engine is mated to the world’s first eight-speed “direct sport-shift” transmission. A new torque-converter lock-up control was developed that allows for a direct, crisp gear change through the constant lock-up of the torque converter in second through eighth gears.

In Drive mode, the IS-F transmission performs smoothly, and the torque converter allows for quick 0-60 acceleration in less than 4.9 seconds. The transmission also features a manual mode operated via a pair of paddles. Downshifts are accompanied by automated throttle blips to match engine RPM to vehicle speed. Heavy-duty Brembo brakes with 14.2-inch discs and six-piston calipers ensure all the power is kept under control. The IS-F features custom-designed 19-inch forged alloy wheels as standard

The-Worlds-Ugliest-Cars

A recent survey selects the worst designed cars of all time. The top pick? The AMC Pacer
By Chris Palmeri

Car geeks are generally an outspoken group. But they really put the pedal to the metal when Hagerty Insurance, a specialist in collector cars, surveyed its policyholders for their picks of the worst car designs of all time.

Here's what one connoisseur had to say the about the top pick, American Motors' Pacer: "0 to 60 in four-and-a-half hours. AMC's only conceivable excuse for this stylistic horror would be if their design crew was tripping on massive quantities of acid...and even then...it wouldn't be a good excuse."

McKeel Hagerty, CEO of the company, ordered up the survey after noticing that several of what he calls "nerd cars" were increasing in value. He says he was surprised when the Pacer-a notorious dud from the days of disco-topped the list. Hagerty bought himself a dark green 1976 Pacer three years ago for $2,300. "If anyone thinks I'm picking on Pacer owners, guess what-I am one," he says.

Here are the top 10 worst design picks, with comments, from the nearly 2,500 Hagerty customers who participated.

Renault-Megane-Coupe-Concept-Stuns.Geneva

It might seem just a concept and for now that’s exactely what it is but Renault Megane Coupe will be a production model. The concept shows us the overall lines of the new model and the new range actually. The actual production model will debut at the Paris Auto Show and will most probabily replace the current model next year.
What stikes me is the resemblance with the new Laguna. The Gulwing doors are there just to impress and to give the car a futuristic feel. The interior is also from the future and nowone can imagine it in a production model(at least not for the next 10 years anyway)
The back reminds us that the current Megane hatchback isn’t dead yet but it shows its age.

Even though the actual car will be more down to Earth, this concept is a great feat of engineering and the guys over at Renault proved that even if they’re French, that doesn’t mean that they have to make nice and cudly cars.Good for them and I hope they keep it up

Toyota-Iq-And-Urban-Cruiser

cars announced by Toyota should be a truly important addition to the forthcoming Geneva Motor Show. On display will be the IQ urban car and the brand new model, the Urban Cruiser. The IQ was first seen in concept form in Frankfurt in September 2007 and time-wise in terms of development it has beaten the Volskwagen UP!, which was displayed only a few stands away at the same show.

Three passenger spaces have been confirmed, despite the length being less than three metres. Also confirmed is the shape of the prototype, with large wheels and a smoother drive. Even though the glimpses we have had of the IQ seem to be similar in concept to the Smart For Two, Toyota insists that the technology, the security and the design research represent an automotive revolution. As of yet, the specification details and performance stats, as well as the pricing have not been released, but we do know that the car will not be available on the market before the end of 2008. As for the engine, on
the Italian site we recently covered a possible collaboration with Yamaha.

world premiere at the show will be the Urban Cruiser, a compact SUV designed for city use with fuel consumption and emissions reduced to a minimum. For the time being, we have little information and only one photo, but in Geneva we will discover more on this new car, that at first glance reminds us of the design of a few models sold in the States such as the Xb by Toyota’s Scion brand.

Always concerned about the environment, Toyota will put forward the brand new hybrid prototype ‘Plug-In’. At Geneva Toyota plans to display the 1/X Plug-In Hybrid concept with Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV) technology, as well as the personal mobility concept i-Real.

NEW FORTOW REVIEW

smartManiacs are very pleased to have been loaned a new 451 fortwo.

Read on to see the latest smart and what we think of the new model.

You could certainly be forgiven for not realising that the car is an all new model. Subtle differences in the styling, to the bonnet line, headlamps, rear quarterlights and door lines don't give many clues to the transformation. The new car is around 20cm longer, and feels much more roomy in the cabin, at 6'1" I had no problem with head or leg room.

The cabin looks more upmarket, there are still the options for the dash pods to be added to base models. The stereo is more integrated than the old car, although clearly labelled buttons are present, the volume control is a rather fiddly knob on the front of the unit. The overall build quality of the car is much improved.

In our tests the base model Pure returned around 55mpg, being a non-turbo version I felt that the little car had lost some of it's fun and soul, gearchange seems a little ponderous, and the tone from the 1.0 litre engine, although quieter, is not as pleasing as the 700cc engine. On the open road the new car feels more settled thanks to the longer and wider wheelbase, however it is still affected quite badly by crosswind and the slow gearbox makes it a little jerky round town with anything less than complete concentration.

The familiar seats have been replaced by a new and more supportive seat. I was very impressed with the comfort of these over long distances, as I found the old seat somewhat bench-like and unsupportive. The tailgate also houses a storage box ast standard, however there are optional uses for this, such as a picnic set.

MAZDA PLANING RX-7 REVIVAL BY 2012

Mazda is expected to launch its next-generation of the much-loved turbocharged RX-7 performance car by 2012, according to a report published by RoadandTrack magazine.

The RX-7 rebirth is a must for Mazda, with the affordable sports car market from Asia set to make a long awaited return with cars like the Nissan 200SX, Hyundai Genesis Coupe and ‘Toyobaru’ Coupe.

The current RX-7 is still a modern and highly sought-after sports car despite its age, and as the rendering above demonstrates, the new model will draw its inspiration from Mazda concepts such as the Kabura and Furai.

The new model is expected to be powered by the new 16X rotary engine, an evolution of the current Renesis 13B engine found in the RX-8.

In its naturally-aspirated guise the 16X rotary engine is expected to produce around 150-190kW with improved low-end torque.

However sources indicate Mazda is still experimenting with forced-induction – determined to meet emissions regulations which faulted the RX-8’s turbocharged ambitions.

Live-For-Speed-New-Tire-Model-Scirocco-Previews

Back in December, the Live for Speed developers announced that the VW Scirocco road car would be joining their simulation soon.

The release was postponed shortly after and there were no updates on the Scirocco until now. The developers have announced to be working on a new tire model since then, the old tire model prevented them from simulating the car accurately because they offered too much grip.

There’s no release date for the new model and the Scirocco yet, the new tires have already been tested sucessfully by the beta team though. More info on the matter can be found here, below are some fresh previews of VW’s popular road car.

I’ll probably give this a quick try when it gets released since I drove so much LFS before iRacing came along, but I doubt it’s going to be enough of a difference to compare to iRacing physics-wise. I think all LFS can do now is cover the low cost / indie / casual online racing angles. It would be cool if they could somehow prove everyone wrong, though. They achieved an incredible amount for such a small team but then things just ground to a halt… can’t do that when other people with serious money start playing in the same space.
I don’t think iRacing is any threat to LFS in reality – LFS has always appealed to the younger person who deosn’t have the disposable income for iRacing. Look how popular the demo is and always was. The numbers racing LFS on-line haven’t shown a noticeable decline since iRacing’s arrival.

Frankfurt-Rolls-Royce-Ghost-World-Premiere.

It isn’t every day that Rolls-Royce rolls out a new model, let alone the start of a new lineup of cars. In fact, the most luxurious luxury brand on the planet hasn’t had an entirely new model (based on a new platform), since 2003. Sure, there have been the Coupé and Drophead Coupé, but both of those models are based on the Phantom’s underpinnings.

The company’s latest model, the Ghost, has just been officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show. With definite Phantom design cues, the Ghost is a slightly smaller vehicle, but that’s not saying much.

It is, by all accounts, incredibly large and has an engine to match. Powered by a 6.6-liter V12, the Ghost makes 563hp and 575 ft-lbs of torque at just 1500 rpm. Using a new eight-speed automatic transmission the Ghost will be able to hit 62 mph in just 4.8 seconds.

The Ghost will be available with a very long list of standard an optional equipment, including rear-seat LCD screens with fold out tables and, of course, umbrellas in the doors.

Rolls-Royce is expected to follow the same product development strategy with the Ghost as with the Phantom, so expect to hear rumors of both a coupe and a convertible starting soon
Rolls-Royce has officially released the first production images and a long list of details on its latest model, the 2011 Ghost. Styled much like the Phantom, but slightly sportier and more modern, this more “entry-level” vehicle is still expected to cost close to $300,000.

The wait for the Ghost has been a long one, as Rolls first announced it was building a new line of vehicle at the Paris Auto Show back in 2006. Known initially as the RR4, this Ghost has been shown around the world in several prototype and concept forms (including as the 200EX) , but next week it will officially debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show.

New-Seat-Ibiza-More-Emotions-Fewer-Emissions

The new Ibiza bursts onto the scene full of energy and youthful dynamism, but true to its origins. It’s an innovative proposal whose precision quality, sportiness and new "Arrow Design" concept combine perfectly with high levels of safety and comfort. The car shows how well the new platform developed by the VW Group for this segment adapts to the Spanish maker’s newcomer. To be produced exclusively in the Martorell facilities, the most modern technologies have been applied on the new generation Ibiza in all the manufacturing stages, resulting in a development time shortened by 14 months compared to the previous Ibiza and featuring the use of virtual models in the initial stage, instead of the traditional physical models.
First application of new platform developed by the VW Group for this segment
- New design language defined by forceful geometric lines
- Reduced CO2 emissions on Diesel and petrol engine range

The most significant result of this has not only been reduced lead times and lower expenses, but the enhancement of one of the values that SEAT applies to all its models, namely quality, which has reached its highest level on the new Ibiza.

Paying special attention to detail, both on the exterior as well as the interior of the car, several elements can be found on the new Ibiza that have been crafted with exquisite care, for example the detailing on the dashboard, the instrument panel, the new ventilation nozzles or the central console, where the newly designed radio includes a Bluetooth connection that can be activated via controls on the steering column.
Externally, the new "Arrow Design" concept makes a bold statement, where the headlights and radiator grille’s lower positioning provide a sportier, more forceful silhouette. These qualities are also present in the modified "Dynamic Line" that makes an impressive sweep across the side of the car. The robust rear shoulders and attractive wheel arches complete the design of the new Ibiza, the first production model created by SEAT’s Design Director Luc Donckerwolke.

The-New-Seat-Leon-Cupra-The-Most-Powerful-Seat-Production-Car

The new León Cupra is hitting the roads – a vehicle in which SEAT has implemented all of the knowledge gained during the current successful World Touring Car Championship season; the Spanish make is, in fact, one of the favourites for the WTCC constructors and drivers championship. For SEAT, whose goal is to create sporty cars with cutting-edge design and the latest technology, the arrival of the new León Cupra is not just a source of satisfaction and pride; it is also essential.
The spirit of the León WTCC in a León road car
- Powerful 2.0 TFSI 177 kW (240hp) engine
- Exclusive and striking styling
The new Cupra is also a record-breaking car: it is the most powerful SEAT passenger car to date. With 240 hp, the new model sits at the top of SEAT’s sporty range. The León Cupra’s advanced engineering, allied to its agile chassis, looks set to create a stir in the increasingly competitive hot hatch market.

Winning looks

One outstanding feature of the Cupra series has been its powerful and aggressive styling compared with the rest of the range. This is also the case for the new León Cupra.

From the outside, the León Cupra demands attention. Its exclusive front bumper has larger air intakes than usual in order to enable sufficient airflow to cool the 240 hp engine, which purrs away under the chiselled bonnet.
An outstanding feature at the rear of the car is the lower section’s black finish, which emulates the León WTCC’s diffusers. Another unique Cupra feature is the polished steel oval exhaust pipe. The word “CUPRA”, which appears below the rear logo, marks out the new model from other versions. In profile, the Cupra’s most striking feature is its stunning, exclusively designed 7.5J x 18″ wheels, as well as the ‘ébano’ black door mirrors.
But to really appreciate the feeling of being in a true sports car, you actually need to step into the new Cupra. The ultra-sporty seats are the first feature which catches the eye. In fact, the Cupra’s seats are so focussed that they could genuinely be racing car seats. They surround the body and include an integrated head restraint

Renault-Mercedes-Discuss-New-Smart-Model

Mercedes-Benz and Renault are said to be collaborating on a deal that is aimed at bolstering the German brand’s underdeveloped Smart division with a new four-seat modelThe new Smart, due in 2013, will replace the ForFour (as pictured) that was killed off in 2006 due to poor sales and is planned to sit on a lightly modified version of the Renault Twingo’s underpinnings.

The new Smart will also feature a dedicated (plug-in) electric version to be based on Renault partner Nissan’s new Leaf EV.

It is expected the announcement will be made official at the upcoming Frankfurt auto show, where Smart has previously stated it will reveal further details about the future of the Smart brand.

So far Smart have hinted at three new models by the middle of the next decade including a radical three-seater sports car.

At this early stage, it is not known whether the deal between Mercedes-Benz and Renault will extend to engines and gearboxes, although German media reports have suggested that the two are looking at deep integration between the new ForFour and the Twingo in a move aimed at extracting the sort of economies of scale achieved by rival carmakers PSA/Peugeot-Citroen and Toyota with their similarly sized C1, 106 and Aygo.

This would suggest further collaboration on small-capacity petrol and diesel units, including possibly a new generation of highly efficient three-cylinder engines already under development at Mercedes-Benz

Chinese Electric Car Passes

A new model of electric car joint-developed by China's Tianjin Qingyuan Electric Vehicle Company and Hafei Auto Group recently passed Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)'s 40mph frontal offset impact test. This is the first time a Chinese electric vehicle has passed the test, Xinhuanet.com reported on Friday.

The model, named Saibao, scored US-NCAP (United States New Car Assessment Program) 4 stars. Injury measures on all body regions of the test dummy fell well within the safety limits, and the car's high-voltage electric engine as well as all the other key electric assemblies remained untouched after the crash.

U.S.-based IIHS's 40mph frontal offset impact test is known as the world's strictest test on new cars. Saibao's excellent performance in the test demonstrates China's ability in developing vehicles that are both eco-friendly and safe.

The development of new energy cars is one of the main projects in China's 11th 5-year plan announced in 2006. Responding to the call, Hafei has been putting more fund in developing alternative energy car models, including cars using electricity. Now that the Saibao model has passed the IIHS test, Hafei's next step is mass-producing it. Xinhuanet.com reports that about 200 Saibao electric cars will make their debut in U.S. in the first half of 2009.

The new Hafei Saibao electric car with lithium-ion batteries can reach a maximum speed of 130 km/h and one charge can last the car for 160 km. The model also supports quick charge.

A-killer-70-Road-Runner-Muscle-Car

High performance and low cost were Plymouth’s design goals for a brand-new model in 1968. The company believed that the time was right for a factory hot rod for the youth market, and its guess was right on the money. It would have the macho name of Road Runner. It was also a very "B Body" budget-friendly machine which made it another very important reason for purchasing. The high cost ruled out many of the muscle cars of the eraThe Plymouth RoadRunner was developed as a mid-priced car and was placed between the Satellie and Belvedere model line up. It was built on the B-body platform. The RoadRunner was light and featured few amenities. This not only drove the price of the vehicle into territory that most could afford, but it gave an advantage over heavier vehicles. The front and back seats were both bench. There was no radio, no air conditioning, no cruise control, no trim, and very few color options. Most of the options available favored speed and acceleration. Less money meant less chrome on the (...)

Spy photos of the 2008 Honda Accord just keep on coming. This time it looks like the V6 sedan given the dual exhaust pipes poking out from the rear fascia. The rest of the car has the same conservative shape as the other prototypes we've seen lately. What we can see of the interior shows nothing particularly ground breaking although the nav screen does appear to take up a considerable amount of real estate in the middle of the dash... The largest gathering of Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts ever, took place on Saturday at the Rolls-Royce head office and manufacturing plant at Goodwood, West Sussex. More than 60 of the historic motor cars, built between 1907 and 1926, were displayed before they embarked on a 17-day, 2000-mile tour.

2009-Volkswagen-Tiguan-R-Line-Model

An aggressive new model is set to join the Tiguan range with the introduction of the new R Line spec variant which adds new exterior highlights and enhanced interior comforts.

Designed and produced by Volkswagen Individual, a special engineering wing of Volkswagen responsible for the Passat R36 and Touareg R50, the new Tiguan R Line offers a significant visual overhaul over the standard model but unfortunately no improvement in performance.

Its new look is achieved by a new body-coloured front splitter which sits below the front bumper along with a unique matt chrome grille section together with blistered wheels arches which frame new R Line 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in 255/40 tyres.

Subtle body-colour sill extensions complete with matt chrome highlights flow onto the new rear bumper with small diffuser, with the look completed by a small spoiler which sits at the top of the rear window.

Inside the Tiguan R Line features a new flat-bottomed multifunction steering wheel plus a set of contoured sports seats complete with ‘R’ logos and aluminium R Line pedals and trim.

Advanced 2Zone climate control is also fitted as standard in addition to the range of standard equipment fitted to the Sport model including four airbags, automatic lights, front fog lights, rain sensors and sports suspension.

The new R Line model is available fitted with a range of efficient 2.0-litre TDI common rail diesel engines in 103kW and 125kW outputs as well as a 2.0-litre TSI engine developing 147kW.

Here Fiat comes with the new Grande Punto

Punto is a great design from Italians. The Punto’s silhouette is well balanced whichever angel you look at it. The big lights up front and the long nose look sporty and give it plenty of character. The rear gets compact lights mounted high up on the pillars. And the big wheels complete the purposeful stance. Well, shall I remind you Fiat owns Ferrari and Maserati- easy to understand once you look at the Gnade Punto’s design.

Interiors

Here the first thing you will notice when you step into the cabin is the manner in which the doors shut with a solid ‘thunk’ It is a sound that is found on more expensive saloons and there is no tinny, built-to-a-price feel that most rivals exclude.

The next thing you will notice is that the rear seats aren’t really as impressive as the generous external dimensions of the car suggest. The width means that three occupants will fit nicely but legroom is just about adequate and similar to most rivals. The high-set seats themselves are very comfortable and both under thigh and back support is very good.

Front seat passengers won’t have any reason to complain. The seats up front are wide and legroom is also very generous. The driver’s seat adjusts for height but the steering only adjusts for rake, not reach, so finding the ideal driving position can be a little tricky.

The dials are similar to the ones found on the Linea, except they are in black. Fiat oddly hasn’t marked a redline on the rpm gauges. The dashboard control fall easily to hand and are intuitive to use. The indicator stalks though are irritatingly placed on the left.

The company hasn’t followed the beige interior trend that most rivals have made the norm now. The dark grey-black cabin can be a bit tiring to look at after a long drive. Another grouse is the inconsistent quality of plastics. Thought the dashboard is made from relatively dense materials, some bit let it down.

Another area that Fiat hasn’t been paying attention to is the usability of the cabin. There aren’t too many places where you can put that take away glass of iced tea or your cell phone for that matter. It’s a shame considering many rivals are getting stronger on practicality. The boot, at 280 liters, is again the norm in its class rather than a stand out feature. The suspension towers intrude in to it, limiting its usability. The high sill doesn’t help loading either.

What you will greatly appreciate is the number of features on offer in this car. The Grande Punto’s top-end Emotion variant comes with ABS and twin airbags, a voice-activated Bluetooth pairing for your phone, climate control, alloys and an IPod dock among other features.

I hope you would have enjoyed the post. Please let me know your responses. See you very soon with the next review.

The Kia Borrego – Bad Timing?

When we see the debut of a new car model, it may be “new” to us, but to the people who toil in the auto industry, a new model has been around in various development stages for at least a couple of years. That’s what makes planning so tough for designers and engineers creating new vehicles; they have to try to predict tastes and trends a long time in advance.
For the 2009 model year, Kia has rolled out its largest model yet, the husky Borrego SUV. Not a crossover based on a car chassis, but a true body-on-frame truck-type sport utility with the option of true four wheel drive. It has three rows of seats, an optional V8 engine, and it dwarfs the other Kia models in the showroom. Just what American buyers need right now…or not.
You can’t really blame Kia for this ill-timed product launch. When the Borrego was approved for production, the record high gas prices of mid-2008 were still a year or two away. And like other brands trying to grow their market share, Kia Motors America and its dealers wanted to broaden the variety of models offered to the public.
Nevertheless, there was a lot of head scratching among the automotive press and the public when the Borrego landed in an auto market where everyone was talking fuel economy and smaller vehicles. Five years ago it might have made a pretty significant splash, with an athletic design and the bargain price tag that Kia has been known for. Add in the impressive power train warranty (10 years / 100,000 miles) and it could have been a pretty big hit.
But today, the larger SUVs have become automotive pariahs. Sure, there are still a handful of people who like them and will continue to buy them, but generally, their time has passed. The name of the game now is efficiency, and most every car company is working hard to develop lighter, friendlier crossover SUVs that ride and handle like cars. Even though Kia calls the Borrego “mid-size,” it’s still pretty big and heavy.
The Borrego isn’t a bad vehicle; it’s just out of step with the times. Build quality is high, the V8 engine has gobs of smooth power, and it’s fitted with all the amenities that have become commonplace in new vehicles. But the Borrego breaks no new ground at all, feeling pretty much like a brand new 1999 Ford Explorer. In fashion, styles seem to recycle every generation or so, with older designs brought around again for a new audience. With new cars, older designs don’t really cut it.
But if you are in the market for a traditional SUV, Kia has the right formula. Overall exterior size isn’t overly excessive, and there’s plenty of room inside. A V6 engine is standard, as is two wheel drive for a reasonable starting price of $26,245 (for the base LX model). Stepping all the way up to the most expensive Limited model, with the V8 and four wheel drive, you’ll pay just a tick under $40,000. That’s quite a bargain.
Aside from a pretty good price, Kia also got the styling right. The front end has a kind of “hmm…I’ve seen that somewhere before” look to it, with a wide chrome grill and nicely done light clusters. The rear gets a little bit of style too, with a familial resemblance to Kia’s smaller Sportage and even some of the Hyundai models that come from the same parent company.
Inside, we slip back into that 1999 time warp. Nothing really stands out, save for the brushed metal trim swath across the width of the dash that’s become commonplace today. The gauges look very generic, and only the optional navigation screen and the floor console shift lever for the 6-speed automatic transmission suggest a modern vehicle. Again, not horrible, but nothing that inspires automotive lust.
Thankfully, Kia’s launch hubbub for the Borrego was short-lived, as they’ve now focused their marketing efforts on a vehicle much more attuned with what buyers want. Debuting at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November and due to go on sale this spring, the Kia Soul is a compact, fuel efficient and funky car with all kinds of personalization options. The Soul will bring the Korean brand boldly into 2009. Young drivers want style and value, and the new small car will likely deliver both.
But if you yearn for a return to 1999, you can revisit a time of booming technology stocks, low gasoline prices, and fewer worries about terrorism. It wasn’t a great time for SUVs by comparison, but some folks don’t really care about fashion all that much. For them, the new Borrego is a comfortable suit of clothes that works just fine, no matter what fashion critics may think.

While Dacia’s Duster may not be a luxury car by any means, it is certainly a visual upgrade for what has been a budget brand historically. It appears to borrow quite a bit from Nissan’s Murano line of crossover ute’s, which we’d argue with if we didn’t already love the Murano. [see our full coverage of the Dacia Duster, including specs and photos
While this one wasn’t seen in-the-flesh at the Geneva Motor Show this year, the Lamborghini Insecta was still a favorite revelation. Its insect-inspired design and green-conscious power system could be a boon for Lambo in years to come. [see our full coverage of the Lamborghini Insecta, including specs and photographs
The Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano saw an update in two variations at the Geneva show this year. Both are primarily an update in components and interior options, but are certainly noteworthy for the most upscale Ferrari buyers. [see our full coverage of the

visionary-model-car-is-one-

Hrmmm, this bears looking into. The new BMW GINA Light Visionary Model car is created using a flexible fabric that is rather stretched over a manipuable metal frame. So you can basically change the actual shape of your car based on what features you activate. More of like a classy Thing.

This is currently no word on if this beautiful machine will actually go into production, but my vote is a definite yes!
Yeah the new BMW looks all fancy and stylish but why make it as expensive as possible, and is most likely more dangerous to drive. I mean come on 0- 60 in what a staggering 3 secs, that’s because it weight is just a tad more heavy than a feather with rubber tires on it, so when u reach 60 u have to stay at that speed or the fabric covering will curl over and peal of with the pressure of the air. Id like to see more of this car in action before i can make aThe ‘Gina’ concept car covering was patent protected ”
Rome, 28 Feb. (Apcom) – The ‘Gina’ BMW is a prize-winning concept car, but the idea of using a fabric covering for the bodywork is now said to have been copied from an Italian. This is the subject of the lawsuit initiated by fashion designer Giuseppe Bianco, owner of a number of young fashion labels, and filed with the Rome Public Prosecutor a few days ago. Public Prosecutor Marcello Monteleone is believed to be assessing the case presented by lawyer Carlo Cirillo, which contains allegations of counterfeiting under articles 473 and 474 of the penal code and under the provisions of the so-called ‘industrial property code’, as defined in the law of 10 February 2005, number 30, article 127. Specifically, according to the lawsuit, Bianco designed an exclusive procedure in 2005 by which any covering material, from leather to fabric to more technical materials, could be applied to the external body of cars and other motor vehicles, “making the covering impermeable and resistant to atmospheric agents”. After registration of the patent, exhibition at the 2006 Bologna Motor show, and coverage on the Tg5 Italian TV channel, Bianco was confident, happy in the knowledge that he had invented something innovative. Then, in the middle of 2008 he discovered that BMW had presented a concept car with a fabric body: the Gina, acronym for ‘Geometry and functions in ‘n’ adaptions’. So Bianco felt that there was nothing for it but to assert his rights. The battle between this small inventor from Italy and the German colossus began last August, when lawyer Carlo Cirillo informed the legal offices of BMW that his client was the “owner of the rights following the filing of a formal application to register the patent for a fabric covering for motor vehicles” and warning the German company to “cease any activity in conflict with this”. After further contacts between lawyer Carlo Cirillo and the legal consultants from BMW’s patents office, and despite all the documentation presented in support of Bianco’s case, the Gina was exhibited at the museum in Munich and from 11 to 15 February of last year at the Salon Concept Car Hotel National des Invalides Plauce Vebaun, in Paris. As reported in the newspapers, at that event in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower, the Gina won the award of ‘Grand prix du plus beau concept car de l’annèe 2008′. But Bianco was not willing to let matters lie. He made a video with his accusations and posted it on Youtube. The process involved in this work on the car and the application of the materials, as shown on the carbodydesign website, source BMW press office, is exactly the same as the one he designed. In his lawsuit, the designer also refers to a visit by a BMW manager to his stand at the Motorshow. Lawyers Carlo Cirillo and Pamela Baglivo, who presented his case with the collaboration of lawyer Micol Cupo Pagano, explain: “Our client hopes that this will throw light on the matter.” Lawyer Carlo Cirillo adds: “It is clear that if the judicial authorities recognize this as a violation of Mr. Bianco’s patent rights, we are looking at damage on a huge scale, taking into consideration the enormous publicity potential of the internet coverage used in handling this issue. So I hope that this will bring protection to the offended party, the small businessman, against a multinational company with great economic resources.” real verdict

lamborghini-gallardo-convertible-new-model

It’s not all doom and gloom in the car industry – as evidenced by the fact that Lamborghini has produced a convertible version of one of the prettiest cars ever made – the Gallardo. Smaller in proportion (and arguably much better looking for it) than the Murcielago, the Gallardo is nonetheless a true supercar. That makes the convertible version that little more special!

Of course, whilst it might seem illogical to launch a convertible in winter, it becomes a little more understandable when you factor in the consideration that most Lamborghinis are actually sold in California. The Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder (to provide the full name) was unveiled at the LA Auto Show.

The bodywork weighs 20kg less and the engine has been given an extra 40bhp over the standard tin top version. Resultantly, performance is maintained at a whopping 0-60 of four seconds and a blast all the way up to 201mph should you so desire.

Perhaps more interesting is the apparent improvement on the eco-front. Lamborghini has managed to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by a whopping 18 percent. Of course, don’t go kidding yourself that a 5.2 litre V10 is now green…

Prices start at £150,000 for the basic model, whilst if you want to spec it up you could add more to that (probably by a significant number). For obvious reasons, the UK launch has been put off until spring – I don’t really fancy going around in a convertible in -3 – but then again it is a Lambo.

Whilst it is rather breathtaking to look at, for some reason I’m still more of a fan of the hard top version. The normal 560 just seems to have more appealing lines. Maybe it’s just me? Let me know what you think.

Rüsselsheim -- Opel’s next-generation range of mid-size cars promises a radical step forward. The new model family, which makes its world premiere at the London Motor Show in July 2008, sets technology and design standards for the Opel brand and mid-size segment. To lead off the proceedings, Opel today announced the new model’s name: 2008 Opel Insignia.
The new Opel Insignia family will be built at Opel’s home plant in Rüsselsheim, one of the most state-of-the-art automobile production facilities in the world.
Dynamic performance is one of the Opel brand’s core values. In the new Opel Insignia, this defining characteristic is realized by sophisticated powertrain technology, active safety and the interface between driver and car. The Insignia’s level of comfort and environmental friendliness is unrivaled even among considerably more expensive competitors,” says Alain Visser, Chief Marketing Officer, General Motors Europe.
With the Insignia, Opel continues pursuing its strategy of making advanced technology affordable for more customers.
When it comes to the new car’s design, Visser says, “A closer look at our groundbreaking GTC concept car gives a good idea of how exciting Opel’s new design language will be.”
The beginning of Opel’s modern mid-size heritage dates back to 1970 with the launch of the Ascona, which sold 4.4 million units over three generations. This was succeeded by the Vectra in 1988, heralding a new era of innovative models from Opel. With almost 5.5 million models sold to date, the Opel Vectra is one of the key players in the mid-size segment.
